Udupi is one of the famous cities in the Indian state of Karnataka. It is the headquarters of the Udupi district. There are a number of interesting mythological tales that are connected with Udupi. Places to See in Udupi
Krishna Temple: One of the very famous religious sites in Udupi, Krishna Temple enshrines the deity of Lord Krishna. Set up by the great sage Sri Madhvacharya, the temple has an interesting anecdote connected to it. As per lengend, Kanakadasa, an ardent believer and worshipper of Lord Krishna, was not allowed into the temple. Pleased by the devotion of the devotee, the Lord turned the Krishna statue in a direction which allowed the disciple to regard his Lord’s heavenly form, through a little window at the back of the matha. This window is termed as ‘Kanakana Kindi’ and is an attractive feature of the temple.
Anantheshwar Temple: Located in Manjeshwar, Anantheshwar Temple is well-known as ‘Manjula Kshetra’ and ‘The temple of 18 towns’. The temple has a long heritage that dates back to a thousand years. It is believed that Parasurama upon recovering land from the sea, coroneted his devotee Ramabhoja as a ruler. Unintentionally, he once wiped out a snake. To get himself off from sarpa dosha, he then made a silver peetham with a snake cut out on it. Ramabhoja then installed Parasurama in the linga swaroopam and revered him as Anantheswara. Thus, the temple of Anantheshwar came into being.
Chandramoulishwar Temple: According to history, the Moon was once cursed by Daksha Prajapati. To get away from the curse, the Moon executed self-mortification. God was pleased and he came out before the Moon and set the Moon free from the curse. And so this place came to be known as Chandramoulishwar meaning Lord Shiva. The place has a famous temple by this name and the temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva.
Kaup Beach: Located 12 kms southwards of Udupi is Kaup Beach - one of the most beautiful beaches in South India. A lovely site boasting of undisturbed serenity and tranquility, Kaup beach is situated on the coastal belt. For photographers, it is nothing less than a paradise on earth. The 100ft lighthouse on the rocks makes way to be an ideal place to let the camera go on a roll. The place is utmost romantic and blissful. The tinkling sound of the water merges beautifully with the hushes of the breeze, making way for it to be a spectacular place. A walk along the rambling white sand beach and the cool blue water would surely captivate your senses!!
Malpe Beach: Malpe beach is around 6 km from Udipi and is an ideal picnic place with its virtuous beach. The interminable unfold of golden sand with gracefully swinging palm trees and the clean blue sky with the ripple of the sea is an ideal place for spending one's vacation. A perfect holiday resort for boating, fishing and bathing. It is a very famous fishing harbor with tourist ferryboats.

St Mary’s Island near Malpe beach: St Mary’s island is a little slip of land about 30 minutes out into the sea from Malpe Beach in Udupi. As you can see in the photos, God certainly let loose on this one; it is gorgeous and I can say this with the certainty of someone who has seen a fair number of beaches and islands across the world. The island is full of crystallised basalt rock, a unique rock formation found in very few places in the world, the most notable being the Giant’s Causeway in Northern Ireland. And, the sea between the island and the long curve of the beach at Malpe is placid and gentle (or at least looks that way).
Manipal: Manipal is a university town which is situated in the rocky hinterland on the coasts of Malabar. It is at a distance of 8 km from the Arabian Sea. The name is deduced from Mannu which means mud and palla means lake in Tulu language.

How to reach Udupi
By Air: Major airport nearby is Mangalore Bajpe airport, which is nearly 60 km away. Mangalore airport is connected to many cities India. Regular flights are available from Mangalore to Bangalore. Taxi services are available from Mangalore to Udupi costing about Rs 1000.
By Bus: Udupi is well connected with other neighboring cities by Karnataka Road Transport Corporation buses. Regular bus services are available from Mangalore to Udupi. Tourist bus service providers ply luxury buses between Mumbai, Bangalore and Mangalore to Udupi, covering the distances at a rate of Rs 4 per km.
By Train: Udupi railway station lies on the Konkan Railway line connecting Mangalore to Mumbai. It is well connected with all major cities in Konkan line, and also with other cities in India via Mangalore rail terminal.
